Madeline Allison is a sophomore majoring in American Studies with a minor in Spanish. She is from Oakland, California and has a passion for social justice, which she develops through her work with the Dorothy Day Center for Service and Justice and a Cross Campus Coalition to end sexual violence on campus. She hopes that readers of her piece will gain awareness of the significance of their votes and use that knowledge by showing up on future election days.

Mickey Esposito is a freshman majoring in International Political Economy at Fordham College Rose Hill. Besides writing, she has an ardent love of music, and is a member of both Fordham’s University and Women’s choirs. Current issues regarding today’s social justice movements and LGBTQ+ rights made this topic especially meaningful for her to write.

Erika Foschi is a sophomore Communications student at Fordham College Rose Hill. She enjoys exploring the relationship between communication and culture. Her interest in the evolution of intersectionality and gender inclusivity in society inspired this piece.

Aislinn Keely spends her time writing both in and out of the classroom as a writer for the Fordham Ram, earning a spot as an assistant news editor for Volume 99 at the close of the fall 2016 semester. In addition to The Ram, she tutors at a local high school, and enjoys reading and distance running in her free time.

Gregory Lombana is a current freshman at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus, majoring in Biological Sciences on the pre-health track. In addition to being a student, Gregory is a varsity athlete on Fordham’s Swimming and Diving team. Gregory’s Colombian ancestry and fascination with microbiology and disease transmission led him to the topic of Colombia’s need to improve virology research.

Maria Mirones is a Freshman at Fordham College Rose Hill, majoring in Communications & Media Studies. Born and raised in New York, she loves exploring the city and all it has to offer, especially its Broadway shows. Maria is a proud Greek and loves celebrating her culture and heritage with Fordham’s Hellenic Society.

Joe Odegaard is a freshman in Fordham College at Rose Hill from a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. He is Undeclared, but enjoys reading and writing. The widespread poverty and homelessness both in Boston and New York inspired him to research this social injustice, and raise awareness about its causes, implications, and possible solutions.

Nicole Smina is a freshman and a chemistry major at Fordham College at Rose Hill. She is from Stamford, Connecticut. Nicole’s interest in social justice is rooted in her experience throughout the last few years volunteering as a chemistry tutor and an ESL teacher both in Stamford and in the Bronx.

Kylie Suh is a sophomore at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus. She was born in South Korea, but raised in Minnesota and is currently residing in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Kylie is a part of Students for Fair Trade and hopes that her media major will help make a difference in ethical fashion.

Emily Wetzel, a sophomore from California, is passionate about film, fashion, and feminism. Focusing on the prevalence of sexist depictions of women in the media (television, film, and advertisements), this essay responds to the lack of widespread recognition and concern for the cause and effect of poor physical female representation.
